Tonya Smalls earned her DBA in Accountancy from Kennesaw State University in 2015. She received her MBA from Emory University in 2005. Prior to joining the faculty at Emory in 2021, Tonya was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Clark Atlanta University, where she taught Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting and Governmental and Non-Profit Accounting. Dr. Smalls has over 25 years of professional work experience. She is interested in research topics focused on prevention and detection of accounting fraud, behavioral and ethical decision making, whistleblowing, nonprofit accounting and financial management, and teaching/learning in the area of accounting education.
