Executive School of Management, Technology and Law
Ulrich Soltész advises clients on European antitrust and state aid law, as well as on merger control and general European law. He represents German and foreign companies before the European Commission and national competition authorities, and has litigated more than 40 cases before the Courts of the European Union.
Ulrich studied in Freiburg and Brussels (LL.M. 1996). He has been a partner at Gleiss Lutz since 2002. Prior to joining the firm, he worked as a research assistant at the University of Freiburg. He has published many articles on competition and state aid issues and contributed to a number of books on these topics. He is frequently invited as an expert to speak at various international conferences and is the co-editor of the European Journal of Business Law (EuZW) as well as of the New Journal of Antitrust Law (NZKart). Ulrich is a non-governmental advisor to the International Competition Network (ICN) and a member of various associations, including the Berlin State Aid Forum (board member), the IBA, the ABA and the Association for the Study of Antitrust Law. Ulrich speaks German, English and French.
He has represented companies in numerous EU cartel investigations, concerning among others things cement, DRAMs, bathroom fittings, smart card chips, citric acid, plumbing tubes, sodium gluconate, industrial tubes, car parts, Austrian banks, newsprint, and Euro exchange rate fees. He has advised clients in merger filings, such as Suedzucker, Munich Re, Siemens, Canon, First Choice, Nisshinbo, and General Motors/Opel. In addition, he has done state aid work for Commerzbank, WestLB, General Motors/Opel, Hypo Alpe Adria, Bank of Ireland, Deutsche Post, the German government as well as many federal states, including Hesse, Bavaria, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Saxony, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
