Alliance Manchester Business School
Viet is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Finance at Alliance Manchester Business School. He joined the School after successfully completing a PhD in Financial Economics at Leeds University Business School, where he had previously obtained his MA (with Distinction) in Economics and Finance. His current research interests are empirical issues in corporate finance, with a special focus on capital structure.
Viet''s PhD thesis was awarded the Best PhD Paper Award at the Financial Management Association (FMA) European Conference in 2007. His recent studies have been nominated various Best Paper Awards at the FMA Annual Meetings (Semi-finalist) and European Conference (Finalist), as well as the European Financial Management Association (EFMA) Conference. Viet''s research was funded by the UK''s Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and has appeared in world-leading and reputable finance journals, such as the Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Empirical Finance.
Viet has served as an ad-hoc reviewer for UK research councils and several international academic journals in business finance, accounting, and economics, including the Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Economics Letters, Financial Review, Journal of Business Research, European Journal of Finance, Accounting and Business Research, and_ _British Accounting Review. He is a member of the American Finance Association (AFA), FMA, Society for Financial Studies (SFS), European Finance Association (EFA), and EFMA. Viet was a founding member of the Vietnam Finance Association International (VFAI).

Viet is currently Programme Director for the MSc. Accounting and Finance. He teaches on the following course units:
Cross-sectional Econometrics (Core course unit, MSc. Accounting and Finance and MSc. Finance).
Advanced Corporate Finance (MBA Elective and PhD).
Viet has been supervising between five and seven MSc. Finance Dissertations per year since 2008.
He has supervised three PhD students to completion and is currently supervising two PhD students in the field of empirical corporate finance.
