Wei Dong Guo

Associate Professor in Geotechnical Engineering

Biography

I am an engineer and an educator in geotechnical engineering, and offshore engineering. I am also involved in pavement/mining engineering. We develop novel solutions to real-world problems in consistent and scientific manner, and endeavour to provide our solutions in compact form (underpinned by few parameters) to facilitate students' learning and engineers' use

Teaching Experience

  • Mechanics of Materials (UG students)
  • Geotechnical Engineering (UG students)
  • Pavement design and Technology (UG students)
  • Ground Improvement and Deep Foundation (PG students)
  • Displacement-based Design of Pile Foundations (PG students)

Award

  • 2012: Warren Medal, Engineers Australia (Civil Engineering).
  • 2003: Magnolia Talent Grant (for outstanding overseas expert), Shanghai Science and Technology Council, Shanghai China.
  • 2001~2003: Australian Research Council Post-doctoral Research Fellowship
  • 2000: Inaugural John Henry Garrood King Medal, the Institute of Civil Engineering of the United Kingdom
  • 2000: Logan Research Fellowship, Monash University.
  • 1998: Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, Singapore Science and Technology (National University of Singapore)
  • 1993~1997: Australia Commonwealth Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship & The University (of Western Australia) Scholarships

I have developed one boundary element program (GASGROUP), one finite element program, and a few spreadsheet programs (GASLgroup, GASLFP, GASMove, GASLRP, VECP) for modelling nonlinear response of piles. As a sole or leading author, I have published a number of rigorous models and theories for sophisticated response of piles in high-impact international journals.
