Biography
National University of Singapore
Wendy founded Outofstock in 2007, a design collective that has gained international recognition, having won the Singapore Furniture Design Open Category Grand Winner in 2009 and Elle Decoration Spain’s Young Designer of the Year Award in 2008. Most significantly is the President’s Design Award - Design of the Year for their design ‘Black Forest table’ for French furniture label Ligne Roset.
Outofstock works with a variety of international clients such as Ligne Roset, Saazs, Bolia, Industry+, Scanteak and Foundry and Environment, designing furniture and lightings for their collections. This attention to detail for objects also resides in the spatial experiences they create such as Plain Vanilla Bakery and the Burger King Garden Grill Pilot Concept.
Wendy believes that the creative journey is a lifelong pursuit of knowledge spurred by a strong curiosity to learn. She has travelled extensively and apprenticed for masters such as Tomoko Azumi and Masayo Ave whilst working in London. Her design philosophy is the sum of these experiences and her experiments with nature and craft.
In addition to her professional practice, she lectures at the Singapore Polytechnic Design School, National University of Singapore as well as the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.
