Biography
Wagner Graduate School of Public Service
Will, the founder of Speakable, is a communications and process specialist who specializes in helping organizations with high-stakes presentations. An adjunct professor of project management and public speaking at NYU, Will helps individuals, organizations and teams maximize their public speaking skills.
In the past five years, 46 out of 46 clients coached by Will have won or achieved their goals, often against extreme odds. He has coached NYU Wagner to two national titles and three second place finishes in five years at a national graduate school presentation competition, he has coached a start-up to win a national venture capital competition with a $500k first prize (over almost 300 competitors), and he has helped an organization go from fourth place prior to oral presentations to winning a $450 million pitch to the City of New York over Accenture, Oracle and IBM.
Will is the former co-Managing Partner of VShift, an interactive marketing firm that specialized in helping organizations present themselves like top tier brands, Managing Director for OgilvyInteractive where he was responsible for overseeing all of its New York operations, and Managing Partner for the New York office of marchFIRST, a $200-million, 500-person operation.
Before it became marchFIRST, Will worked at USWeb/CKS, where he joined the team that launched the very first iteration of BarnesandNoble.com as a project manager, eventually running the project management unit and co-creating the web development process for the 10,000 person company. Will also co-founded a multimedia company, worked as a financial analyst and, prior to his professional career, was a sixth-grade school teacher.
Will has taught classes at NYU, Brown University’s Watson Institute, Columbia Business School, and Columbia''s School of International Public Affairs in presentation skills, interactive marketing and interactive development processes. He graduated with Honors from Yale, received an MBA with High Honors from Columbia Business School and studied advanced pre-med for two years at Harvard.
While at Yale, Will played number one on the squash team for three years and earned three first-team All America and All-Ivy honors. He went on to become a world-ranked squash player on the men’s professional touring circuit (where he achieved the highest world ranking ever by an American man), won the U.S. National Championship and was the United States’ #1 ranked player in 1990 and 1995. Will has won three national championships, has competed in the World Championships and the Pan Am Games and has marched in the opening ceremonies in two Olympic Games.
Will has almost twenty years of sports management experience, serving on the Executive Committees and Boards of Directors of both the US Olympic Committee and the US Squash Association. He also served on the Athlete’s Advisory Council on the Olympic Committee for two terms. He has been the back-page columnist of Squash Magazine for the past twenty years, and is a world-renowned Master of Ceremonies for four of the largest major professional squash tournaments.
