Biography

Nanyang Technological University Centre for Professional and Continuing Education

Professor William Chen is the Michael Fam Chair Professor with NTU Singapore and the Director of Food Science & Technology Programme. He is also the Director of Singapore Agrifood Innovation Lab (SAIL@NTU), Co-Director of NTU Future Ready Food Safety Hub (FRESH@NTU), and Director of F&N-NTU Joint Innovation Lab.

He has more than 30 years of research experience and his food research focuses mainly on fermentation technology. His technology innovation in converting food waste to high value food ingredients has generated significant interests from food industry and government agencies. His food research has a strong focus on development of food technology platform, which has resulted in his active joint R&D with food industry and government agencies.

He is also actively engaged in various government efforts in enhancing food security. Prof. Chen's research in zero food waste processing and Circular Food Economy has been extensively covered by Channel News Asia, The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, The Business Times, and the investment weekly The Edge Singapore.

He is an Advisor to government agencies, food industry, NGOs and overseas universities on matters related to food tech and food security.

Professor William Chen received his university education (from BSc to DSc) from Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium.
