William Koehler

Dr. Koehler is an adjunct professor in BU’s Metropolitan College. He is also the Dean of the School of Management and Chair of the Business Department at Bay State College in Boston. He has almost thirty years of experience in teaching, academic administration, and business management. Since joining Bay State College in 2009, he has developed six new degree programs and secured accreditation candidacy with the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Koehler won the College’s Faculty Award for Excellence in 2014. Previously, as the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs at the University of Massachusetts-Boston, Dr. Koehler created several new graduate and undergraduate programs, securing a $450K grant from the US Department of Education and the EU to establish international joint-degree programs with two leading universities in Germany and Finland. He has also taught extensively abroad, including at universities in Germany, India, and Kazakhstan. In his academic career, Koehler has taught in a wide range of related fields, including strategy, management, economics, history, and communications.

Koehler’s research spans a number of interrelated fields from urban development to information and communications technology, from social and cultural history to international business management. His current scholarly focus is on urban entrepreneurship, especially the role of minority small businesses in social justice and economic development. As a former entrepreneur, Koehler also consults with small businesses in greater Boston.
