Biography

Born in 1953, he was infected with the jazz virus as an adolescent by an unearthly good but unfortunately often drunk radio presenter. The Saarbrücken native and Berlin emigrant now works as a professor of media, communication science and journalism at the BiTS (Business and Information Technology School) in Hamburg. He started with cultural journalism in the early 1980s at Taz, then became an editor at the news magazine “Der Spiegel” and from 1999 onwards he took care of everything related to culture at “FTD” (Financial Times Deutschland).

In doing so, he turned his hobbies from theater to cinema, music and art to literature into a career. Studied political science, theater studies and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin, Doctorate in political science on Habermas and media; Skilled worker certificate as a radio and television technician; worked as a salesman, electronics technician, assistant director and musician. Lecturer at universities and technical colleges, book author, tries to juggle two children, karate training, playing chess, making music and writing in his free time.
