Wim Teunissen

Assistent Professor of Business Communication System, Docent, Trainer

Biography

A mathematician and computer scientist by background, I have developed into an IT generalist, having spent most of my career in IT Service/Security Management and Management of IT including Strategy & Planning. I have also worked for five years as assistant professor Business Telecommunications at the Rotterdam School of Management (RSM) of the Erasmus University. As can be gleaned from my curriculum, I have moved a lot between companies and industries. This has proven important to me, allowing me to feed my curiosity to learn to know new people, new ideas, new ways of working, face new challenges. Never have I stayed with one company as long as with Shell. This is testament to its diversity in all of the above: as a global company one gets the chance to meet many people from very different backgrounds. With its size and complexity, there is a variety in problems to solve, improvements to make. Its open culture and easy access to its people are exemplary and fit my personal preference perfectly. My Continuous Development through the years • Curious – always keen to learn, understand how things work, see what’s new • Development and growth – Regardless of the topic, I love to challenge and be challenged, even if only for the fun of it. • Teams – A team is where I thrive, where challenging happens, the learning on-going and shared, the successes celebrated. • Delivery – ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’, turning those ideas into something that actually works is the ultimate satisfaction. Teaching and Training to Develop Others • Curiosity and Enthusiasm – I will never forget my amazement and enthusiasm at school when my math teacher explained something new. I am always looking to spark that surprise and curiosity in others … • Development and Growth – … so that spark can help their development and growth. • Teamwork – Helping children, adults, professionals to achieve their full potential, individually or as a team/group. • Delivery – Watching others be successful, after having been able to contribute (if only a small part) to that, can be more gratifying than my own biggest accomplishments.
