Xavier Vila Fdez-Santacruz

Over 30 years in the banking industry, repeatedly moving from headquarters to line and business has provided Xavier with a global vision of the company and the industry itself. His first business experience started in Banca Catalana, in the field of Consumer Finance. This was followed by a period of project management, working closely with external consultancy (Accenture), developing commercial schemes and efficency. Most importantly, this included the final period of the bank with its full integration into the BBVA Group in 2000 New responsibilities arose at BBVA from 2000 to 2008, this time based in Madrid and with a global scope. Firstly, the extension of the Total Quality Management Corporate Plan over the 37 countries where BBVA is located. The second project was the launch of the Innovation model, the new concept for the Group. This process lead to the founding of BBVA Soluciones (today, BBVA Ventures): the incubator for sart-ups and new non-financial business for BBVA, where Xavier served as Chief Executive Officer. In 2008, Xavier returned to Barcelona and took over a line position: the management of a leasing company, BBVA Autorenting S.A. The complexity of the situation required Xavier and his team to implement major changes, both in commercial business strategy and in the reengineering of all internal processes. The search for synergies and economies of scale in the supply chain became the new challenge to optimize the profitability of the company. In 2014 Xavier joined BBVA Wholesale Banking in Catalonia Area and in 2019 became the Consumer Finance Regional Director for the Automative division, meeting again the car industry. Xavier has always kept a close relationship with the academic world to contrast with day-to-day management life and gain a better understanding of the needs of such a changing business world. Innovation Management and its financial implications have been the main teaching topics for Xavier.
