Xirong Li received the B.S. and M.E. degrees from Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2005 and 2007, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 2012, all in computer science.
He is currently a Full Professor at the Key Lab of Data Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, Renmin University of China (RUC), Beijing, China. He is also with the AI & Media Computing Lab of RUC. His research focuses on multimedia intelligence. He has published 100+ peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in related fields, with 4000+ citations and an H-index of 31.
He was the recipient of the ACM SIGMM Best Ph.D. Thesis Award 2013, the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MULTIMEDIA Prize Paper Award 2012, the Best Paper Award of the ACM CIVR 2010, ACM Multimedia 2016 Grand Challenge Award, the Best Paper Runner-Up of PCM 2016, PCM 2014 Outstanding Reviewer Award, and Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad 2011.
As team leader he has won a number of international competitions and benchmark evaluations including the ACM Multimedia 2018 Hulu Content-based Video Relevance Prediction Challenge, the TRECVID 2018 Ad-hoc Video Search (AVS) task, the TRECVID 2018 Video-to-Text (VTT) Matching and Ranking task, the TRECVID 2016 Video-to-Text (VTT) task, and the MSR Bing Image Retrieval Challenge at ACM Multimedia 2015.
He served as Program Co-Chair of MMM 2021, Grand Challenge Co-Chair of ACMMM 2021, Publication Co-Chair of ICMR 2015, Publicity Co-Chairs of ICMR 2013, area chair for ACMMM 2018/2019/2020/2021/2022 and ICPR 2016/2020, . He is currently Associate Editor of the ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing Communications and Applications (TOMM) and the Multimedia Systems journal.
