Yali Peng is a J.S.D. candidate at University of Chicago Law School, where she also received her LL.M. degree ('17). Her research focuses on criminal justice, law and economics, and judicial behavior. She holds a LL.B. degree, summa cum laude, at Tsinghua University ('16), where she was an editorial board member of Tsinghua China Law Review.

She has clerked at the Supreme People's Court of China. Her award-winning undergraduate dissertation examines the factors influencing the sentencing of larceny based on linear regression models. She hopes to reshape people's understanding of sentencing and change the sentencing scheme to better represent the marginalized people.
