Booth School of Business

Yoad Shefi is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Economics and Strategy. He studies applied microeconomics and industrial organization, with a specific focus on defense and terrorism, and has published several papers on the optimal structure of defense industries. In addition to teaching, he is a Senior Vice President at Compass Lexecon, a consulting firm that provides economic and financial analysis of legal and business issues to law firms, corporations and government agencies. At Compass Lexecon, he collaborates with lawyers and economists to prepare economic expert reports for antitrust, labor, and securities cases and has worked extensively on cases related to mortgage-backed securities as well as the automobile, pharmaceutical, beer and high-technology industries.

He spent several years working in the Israeli Ministry of Defense's budget department as a financial adviser to the Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff, where he served as the head of the defense industry and R&D budgets unit and as the head of the IT and knowledge management unit.

Shefi earned his PhD in Business Economics from Chicago Booth in 2009. He additionally holds an MBA from Chicago Booth, an MSc in Decisions and Operations Research, magna cum laude, from Tel Aviv University and a BA in Economics and Accounting. While at Chicago Booth, as a graduate student, he was awarded with several teaching assistance excellence awards including three awards for Exceptional Service to the Executive MBA Program presented annually by the students for outstanding teaching at the Chicago campus.
