Allison Madan

Allison Madan’s experience spans issues arising under ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code and related laws. Ms. Madan has significant experience in matters related to multiemployer pension, health and welfare and training plans, as well as plans maintained by tax- exempt organizations. She counsels clients on a variety of plan design issues, as well as tax qualification issues, benefit funding and administrative compliance. She also provides counsel on fiduciary issues, such as plan investments, cost sharing among plans and related entities, and the payment of appropriate plan expenses.

Ms. Madan has successfully negotiated a number of plan mergers and related transactions for pension, welfare and training funds and has developed a depth of experience in the area of plan terminations. She has litigated cases in a number of federal courts throughout the United States involving a broad range of issues, from co-fiduciary breach to non-payment of benefit claims. She has extensive experience representing clients in Department of Labor investigations and Internal Revenue Service audits and has advocated client issues related to pension plan insolvency with the Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation.

Ms. Madan has presented educational programs to a variety of employee benefit groups, including the National Conference of Unions and Employee Benefit Funds and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. She has also been a speaker for the D.C. Bar Association and the American Bar Association and is a former member of the Professionals Committee of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans.

Ms. Madan joined Slevin & Hart, P.C. as an associate in 1993. She received her law degree from Catholic University in 1990, where she was a member of the Catholic University Law Review and was designated the 1988-89 John Fanning Labor Law Scholar. She received a B.S. in Business Management from the University of Scranton.

Ms. Madan is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia. She is also admitted to practice before a number of United States District Courts and Courts of Appeals.
