Biography
After graduating with a first-class B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Optometry (from _ UMIST , in 2004), Amit successfully completed the British College of Optometrists'' Professional Qualification Examinations (PQEs), followed by registration with the _General Optical Council (GOC) in 2005.
Since qualifying as an Optometrist, Amit has worked in several clinical capacities, including within the field of refractive surgery.
In 2011, he completed his Ph.D. at The University of Manchester (Faculty of Life Sciences), investigating Optical Quality and Visual Performance in Patients with Keratoconus - supervised by Dr Clare O''Donnell, Dr Hema Radhakrishnan and Dr Cindy Tromans.
Following this, Amit completed Post-Doctoral Research at Aston University (School of Life & Health Sciences), working under Prof. James Wolffsohn, in collaboration with Visioncare Research Ltd. (Farnham, Surrey UK). During this period, Amit also co-edited the ''Monthly Research Updates'' series (for Bausch & Lomb''s ''Academy of Visioncare'' website) in partnership with Prof. Wolffsohn.
In 2012, he was awarded the British College of Optometrists'' George Giles Prize for _ outstanding postgraduate research . Amit was also awarded the Peter Abel Prize, by the Association of German Contact Lens Specialists and Optometrists (VDC/o), for _excellence in contact lens optics research. _He also received Fellowship from the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA) by _viva-voce examination.
In the Spring of 2015, Amit was awarded _ Fellowship _ from the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) by viva-voce examination. In the Summer of 2015, Amit was awarded the Faculty of Life Sciences Teaching Excellence Award for ''Second Year Unit Coordinator of the Year'' for the highest-ranking unit survey scores across the entire Faculty.
In 2017, Amit was presented with the prestigious Optometry ''Lecturer of the Year'' award by the National Association of Optometrists (AOP).
Amit is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (awarded in 2015) and currently works as a Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health (School of Health Sciences: Division of Pharmacy and Optometry).
