Presentation
I study the historical emergence and sociological dynamics of competing ‘varieties of capitalism’. So far my work has focused mainly on post-Maoist China, and Scandinavia (as part of the CISTAS research group, see link). My aim is to emphasize the always politically contested nature of national development projects and varieties of capitalism. This requires in-depth, comparative mapping of national fields of ideological and political contestation as they develop historically. I am particularly interested in the complicated relationship between capitalism and democracy. My theoretical pet project is to raise awareness of popular republicanism, a radical democratic political tradition that has today been eclipsed by liberalism. Preferred research methods include: Social networks analysis, qualitative interviews, and archival work.
