Background

Tony Rucci is Clinical Professor of Management at the Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University.  He joined the faculty of the college in 2006 following a 28 year career as an executive officer with three Fortune 100 companies.  He has held a broad range of senior officer responsibilities, including extensive board of directors and governance experience, merger and acquisition responsibilities, large scale organizational transformation efforts, as well as international responsibilities. His professional roles have included:  

EVP/Chief Administrative Officer and President Corporate Staff Groups,  Cardinal Health (19992005) Chairman of the Board, Sears Mexico (19951997)  Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, Sears Roebuck and Co. (19931998)   Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy and Business Development, Baxter International (19791993)  Interim CEO, Ohio State University Physicians, Inc. (2006) 

 

Rucci has also been on the board of directors of a number of companies including: Sears Canada, Western Auto, and Grupo Carso, a conglomerate of privately held companies in Mexico. He has also been on a number of other boards, including the Ohio State University Medical Center Strategic Advisory Board, the University of Illinois, Chicago Chancellor’s Advisory Board and Chair of the Healthcare subcommittee, as well as a Trustee of the Columbus Museum of Art.

Academically, Rucci has been Dean of the College of Business and tenured professor at the University of Illinois, Chicago in 19981999.  He has published over twentyfive articles and book chapters, including the Harvard Business Review and Fortune magazine. He has been on the editorial board of three professional journals, as well as an editorial book reviewer for Harvard Business School Press and JoseyBass publishers.  He has been cited and interviewed in major media including USA Today, Fast Company, Smart Money, and the Wall Street Journal. He has taught at a number of universities, including Ohio State University, Bowling Green State University, the University of IllinoisChicago, and the University of Texas, Dallas. He has delivered over 150 invited speeches and keynote addresses at major conferences and events during his career, including guest lectures at Emory University Medical School, the University of Michigan Ross School, the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School, MIT Sloan School, Harvard University/Palladium Group, and the Ohio State University Medical School. He is also the cocreator of the inaugural Fisher Leaders Program at the Fisher College in 20162017. He holds bachelors, masters and PhD degrees in industrial and organizational psychology from Bowling Green State University.

Rucci also currently maintains an active advising practice at the board and executive leadership levels with companies and organizations, as well as a significant pro bono practice with educational and notforprofit organizations. Selected clients over the past few years have included: National Civil War Trust, Abercrombie & Fitch, Home Depot, Scotts/MiracleGro, Wendy’s International, M/I Homes, NetJets, Grange Insurance, Columbus College of Art and Design, Capital University Law School, Ohio Children’s Hunger Alliance, and State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio.  He is also cocreator of the BRIGHT New Leaders for Ohio Schools, an innovative public school leadership development initiative in collaboration with the Ohio Legislature, the Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Business Roundtable. Noteworthy recognitions have included: the 2017 invited commencement speaker at Bowling Green State University, the 2016 Fisher Pacesetters Service Award, 2015, 2016 and 2017 National Poets and Quants Favorite MBA & EMBA Professor recognition, the 2013 Ohio State University Distinguished Teaching Award, the 2013 Bowling Green Distinguished Alumni Award, the 2010 Fisher Pacesetters Graduate Teaching Award, the 2008 Distinguished Career Executive Award from the National Academy of Management, the 2008 invited keynote speaker at the international conference of the Society of Industrial/Organizational Psychology,  and numerous annual MBA, MHRM and EMBA teaching awards from the Fisher College of Business since 2007.

Tony is also the proud father of five children:  Kelly, Heather, Joshua, Jordan and Sage, and five grandchildren: Kathryn, Anthony, Michael, Everett and Emma.
