Research

Dennis Oswald is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Accounting at the Ross School of Business (University of Michigan), where he has been based since September 2007.  Prior to this he was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at London Business School from September 1999 – July 2007.  Oswald's primary teaching is at the University of Michigan, but he still regularly teaches for London Business School.

Oswald primarily teaches managerial accounting, where he has taught across the full spectrum of students.  Specifically, at Michigan he has taught both the introductory and the intermediate managerial accounting courses to undergraduate students. He has also taught at the full-time MBA level, teaching the core managerial accounting class both at Ross and at London Business School.  At Ross, Oswald has also taught two managerial accounting electives to full-time MBA and MAcc students.  In addition, he has taught more senior students; specifically he has taught the core managerial course to part-time MBA students at Ross, and to executive MBA students and Sloan Masters students at London Business School.  Finally, Oswald has taught on a number of non-degree (both company specific and open-enrollment) programs at London Business School.

Professor Oswald's research interests primarily focus on the use of accounting information by capital market participants.  Specifically, he has written a number of research papers which focus on accounting for research and development costs, accounting for pensions, and share repurchases.

Oswald received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2000.  He also holds an MBA (University of Chicago, 1999), a MSc. in Accounting and Finance (LSE, 1995) and a BComm. (University of Alberta, 1991).
