Biography

Dr. Elangovan Elamurugu is a Scientist and Educator in Microsystems/Materials Science Engineering. He is a thin film expert who has worked on device fabrication for the last 18 years, for various applications such as Photonics, Optoelectronics, Thin-film Transistors, Solar Cells, Energy Storage, Silicon Photonics, etc. He has worked on various other research fields such as Materials synthesis, Micro/Nano Fabrication, Nanomaterials, 2D materials, and Crystal growth. He has a total research experience of 28 years. He has strong instrumentation skills with several Research Instruments to troubleshoot/repair, maintenance, and operation. He is an expert with cleanroom setup and operation.

Currently, Dr. Elangovan Elamurugu is working as Assistant Professor in Department of Physics and Nanotechnology at SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST, formerly known as SRM University, Kattankulathur. He is leading a research team of 5 members (2 PhD students and 3 MTech students). His lab is called as iDARE (Integrated Device Architectural Research & Engineering) Laboratory.

  • Device Fabrication using Cleanroom Setup (Applications: Water Splitting, Magneto-caloric materials for Refrigeration, Photonics, Silicon Photonics, Optoelectronics, Thin-film Transistors),
  • Micro/Nano Fabrication using Focused Ion Beam-SEM, Chemical and Biological Sensors, Fibre Optic Sensors, MEMS and NEMS.
  • 2D Materials, Materials Synthesis, Crystal Growth, Harsh-environment Sensors, Harsh-environment Solar Cells
