Dr Fiona Mason is a consultant forensic psychiatrist and former chief medical officer at St Andrew’s, the UK’s leading charity providing specialist NHS care and an independent national teaching hospital. She is also associate registrar for leadership and management at the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Dr Mason trained in general psychiatry at the Royal Free Hospital, London, and went on to specialise in forensic psychiatry working as a senior registrar at the Maudsley Hospital, subsequently becoming a lecturer in victimology and forensic psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry. She then worked as a consultant in the NHS before taking up a consultant post at St Andrew’s.

Over the past 10 years Dr Mason has increasingly taken on responsibility for service development, medical leadership and management, working as a lead psychiatrist, associate medical director, deputy medical director and, prior to being CMO, director of healthcare.

Dr Mason won the Laing & Buisson Independent Healthcare Aware for Innovation in 2010 and has, throughout her career, developed innovative approaches to service delivery.
