Research Summary

Dr Subrahmanyam''s academic research concerns state-building and governance patterns within former West European empires. She is particularly interested in the impact of colonialism on democratisation and development patterns in Africa and Asia. Dr Subrahmanyam''s policy-based research focuses on the causes and consequences of the Arab Spring riots and revolutions in North Africa, with specific attention to issues of poverty, inequality and unemployment. In addition, she has published several articles on ministerial resignations in Britain. Dr Subrahmanyam has extensive practical experience in public policy research and evaluation. Past consultancy clients have included UNESCO-UNEVOC, African Development Bank, Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Transparency International UK and the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She is currently assisting UNESCO-UNEVOC in analysing global regions'' progress in advancing youth employability and sustainable development through technical and vocational education and training (TVET), as an input to the post-2015 educational agenda. She is also assisting UNESCO Bangkok in drafting the first-ever UN Report on Youth in the Asia-Pacific.
