Jakub Rudnik

Jakub Rudnik teaches digital journalism classes in the College of Communication. He received his MA from the DePaul journalism program in 2014. During his time in the program he served as a digital journalism graduate assistant, held the position of vice president for the Society of Professional Journalists and won the Outstanding Multimedia Journalist Award. He earned a BA in history from Alma College (Michigan) in 2010.

​Rudnik has spent eight years in sports media. As a freelance reporter he's written for the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Pioneer Press, Naperville Sunand other publications. He was nominated for an Associated Press Sports Editors award for a story of a Syrian native becoming an unlikely hero for his high school soccer team. He also worked in television production for the digital-only station 120 Sports (now Stadium). Reporting highlights include covering Kobe Bryant's last game at the United Center for NBA Europe and covering the 2016 Fenwick football team, which had a controversial season-ending loss that became national news when the school took the result to court.

In addition to his journalism experience, Rudnik has spent five years working in the SEO and content marketing fields. He led a team of 20-plus marketers for the B2B software review platform G2 Crowd, growing its blog traffic from 5,000 to 1 million monthly visitors in less than a year. He is currently the VP of Content and SEO at Shortlister, a platform for connecting companies to wellness and HR programs.
