Background
John B. Jensen is the Co-Director of the Operations and Supply Chain Center and clinical professor at the Darla Moore School of Business. He comes from the University of Southern Maine where, as an associate professor in the School of Business, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses in operations management, management science and quantitative analysis. In 2008, he was awarded the University of Southern Maine Faculty Senate Award for Excellence in Teaching, and in 2007, he was given the Outstanding Teacher Award within the College of Business.
Jensen consults regularly with public and private sector organizations on operations analysis, capacity management, benchmarking, manufacturing technology and resource planning issues. As a senior researcher for the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Southern Maine, he implemented research-based tools and methodologies to the problems of large and small firms. Most recently, he has worked with distribution management professionals at Hannaford Bros. Inc. to evaluate the impact of increasing retail delivery frequency on the firm’s supply chain, as well as at Unum Life Insurance Company to apply logistic regression analysis to actuarial data to better forecast claims. Finally, Jensen works extensively with individual students and student teams on substantial projects delivered to the business community. At the University of Southern Maine, these projects have included analysis of food manufacturer supply chain variability, transportation and process technology adoption, mapping labor intensive flow processes, and simulation of labor and machine scheduling problems.
Research
Jensen’s research interests include shop floor control, cellular manufacturing, supply chain modeling and teaching innovation. He frequently serves as a journal referee for papers in these areas and currently holds an associate editor position for the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education. His research has been published in the Decision Sciences Journal, the Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, the Journal of Operations Management, The International Journal of Production Research, The European Journal of Operational Research, The Journal of Services Marketing, The Credit and Financial Management Review, and Maine Business Indicators.
