Mary Ann Huckabay

Mary Ann Huckabay has consulted to organizations, small groups, families and individuals for the last 35 years. With an emphasis on team development, executive coaching and interpersonal competence, her organizational clients include large, complex systems such as Avery International, Levi Strauss International, Kaiser Permanente, DuPont of Canada, Marriott Hotels, Mervyn’s, Stanford University Hospitals, Sun Microsystems, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Federal Aviation Administration. She has also worked extensively with smaller, regional organizations such as private foundations, health clinics, teacher organizations, county welfare systems, social research organizations, law firms and mental health clinics.

Dr. Huckabay has been a lecturer in Organizational Behavior at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business for over 20 years, teaching the popular Interpersonal Dynamics course and Taking Stock/Moving Forward. She is the former director of the Group Facilitation Training Program, a program that develops SF Bay Area professionals to facilitate the student training groups so central to the Interpersonal Dynamics course. For 10 years, she was also the faculty director for the GSB’s Women in Management (WIM) Program, overseeing the delivery of WIM student groups to over 75% of the school’s women MBA students. She currently teaches in the business school’s Executive Education Program.

Mary Ann is a licensed psychotherapist with a small private therapy and coaching practice in Berkeley, California. For eight years, she was an organizational development consultant and research associate for Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in Northern California. In addition to Stanford, she has taught courses in organizational behavior at Sonoma State University, Alliant University, and Hayward State University. Throughout her teaching, writing, coaching and consulting, she emphasizes the importance of integrating the personal and the organizational domains, holding the position that it is the separation of these two spheres that has been so costly to the effectiveness of organizations and the people who inhabit them.

Dr. Huckabay earned her doctorate in Organizational Behavior at Case Western Reserve University, holds a master’s in counseling, and a double undergraduate degree from Stanford University. She is a professional member of the National Training Laboratories, is on the teaching faculty of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, and is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the Organization Development Network—Bay Area.
