Prof Michael Wormald is a Chartered Accountant who taught Management Accounting and Financial Management on the accredited Professional Accounting Programmes at the University of Cape Town for 38 years. During this period, he was appointed as the Head of the Department of Accounting for ten years and the Deputy Dean of Commerce (Operations) for eight years. He has also served as the Interim Dean of Commerce for extended periods.

He has served on a number of SAICA committees both at a National and Regional level. In addition, he was elected to serve two terms as a member of the Main Board of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). He is also a past Director of the Thuthuka Upliftment Fund. Michael has co-published a number of papers in academic journals and has twice been awarded the Standard Bank Prize for papers published in the South African Journal of Accounting Research. He has also presented papers at a number of local and overseas academic conferences. He was a founding member of the Cape Town Board Course and is a founding co-author of the textbook “Financial Management” which is widely used by both accounting and business finance academics in South Africa and Australia.
