Biography
Bristol Business School
I am Professor of Innovation and Technology Management at the Bristol Business School. I am increasingly focusing my research on the key determinants of the process of knowledge exchange and the vital role of the university within a system of innovation. My research activity spans several fields – mainstream operations management, innovation and technology management and more global policy related issues of knowledge development, transfer and institutional collaborative learning. I lead a very active research team working on systems of innovation.
COSINUS Conference Area of expertise I am an applied academic and I continue to engage with interesting projects and initiatives relevant to academics, practitioners and policy makers. I give considerable importance to the dissemination of research findings and knowledge exchange. My research track record includes more than 150 publications including many international quality refereed journal articles and three successful research books. I have an outstanding record in generating funded research with leadership and involvement in projects worth one million pounds since I joined BBS in 1999. I am currently involved in a three year European funded research project whose objective is to investigate innovation in sustainable public procurement (Horizon 2020). We have now completed a three year research aimed at supporting SMEs from the South West of England in the development of their innovative capacities. The findings of this project have been used in exploring the development of Absorptive Capacity of SMEs. I am also involved in a joint initiative of PRGX UK, CIPS and UWE aimed at producing the CIPS Sustainability Index project (http://www.cips-sustainabilityindex.com/). In September 2018, I will start an externally funded research project entitled 'the links between the Algerian universities and the industry'. My research interests and activities also include the new role of universities in the development of knowledge and innovation, their links with their external environment (and more particularly industry) and the impact of teaching and education on the national creation of innovation.
I have been involved in many user-led research projects which have resulted in highly successful research collaborations and knowledge exchange activities with organisations such as Oracle Corporation Ltd, British Petroleum, the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Reading Construction Forum and the West of England Aerospace Forum.
I have appeared several times in the national and international media. My teaching activities (including PhD supervisions), which are sustained by my research outputs, are designed to prepare students to act as agents and champions of change and transformation. I have organized many international conferences and workshops.
I am the Co-Founder and Co-Editor of the 'International Journal of Technology Management and Sustainable Development'.
