Professor and Director, Policy and Impact at Monash Sustainable Development Institute

Biography

Professor Rod Glover is Professor of Policy and Impact at Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI), where he specialises in innovation at the level of systems and societies. As Director of MSDI's Policy and Impact team, Rod works directly with government, industry and community leaders on complex system reforms, connects MSDI and Monash with external intelligence and insights, and teaches Australia's public sector and political leaders.

Rod works at the intersection of research, policy and politics, with a particular focus on establishing mission-oriented and entrepreneurial institutions. With Professor Beth Simone Noveck from The Governance Lab at New York University, Rod recently released a major report for ANZSOG on public sector innovation tools, entitled Today's Problems, Yesterday's Toolkit.

Rod has directly led the design of major reform frameworks in Australia including the COAG National Reform Agenda and a National Innovation Statement and is currently supporting major government reform efforts in skills and mental health. He was formerly Deputy Secretary (Innovation and Projects) in Victoria's Department of Premier and Cabinet, Senior Adviser to an Australian Prime Minister, and has worked at the Australian Treasury and Melbourne Business School.

Rod has been a member of the National Sustainable Development Council and National Sustainability Council, and a Director of Save the Children Australia, the Centre for Evidence and Implementation, the Centre of Excellence in Intervention and Prevention Science, and the think tank Per Capita. He was Chair of Hands on Learning Australia and the COAG Preventative Health Working Group, and in 2019 was the Director of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute.
