Biography
Wisconsin School of Business
Verda Blythe is a faculty associate in the Marketing Department and affiliated with the Grainger Center for Supply Chain Management, where she served in a director role for 12 years. Verda’s teaching portfolio includes several courses in the undergraduate and full-time MBA program including Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management; Marketing Channels; Global Experience in Supply Chain Management; Personal and Professional Foundations in Business; Business and Society: History, Politics, Globalization; and Ethical Leadership. She has received multiple teaching awards including the Honored Undergraduate Instructor Award by UW-Madison (2010 – 2012), Award of Excellence in Teaching by the Student Faculty Board (2013 - 2014), and was voted Marketing Professor of the Year by the Mu Kappa Tau student organization in 2015 and 2016. Verda was named a UW-Madison Educational Innovation (EI) Blended Learning Fellow in 2015, and has given several conference presentations about designing and delivering EI techniques and best practices.
Verda brings extensive industry experience to her position and has worked in a variety of supply chain roles including procurement and sourcing, manufacturing, and logistics. In her business career she has worked for Ruan Transportation Management Systems, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, and IBM. At Ruan she held multiple roles including manager of quality and planning and director of customer development. As a graduate intern at Harley-Davidson Motor Company, she led a team to design just-in-time fulfillment processes between the distribution center and manufacturing plant. At IBM she completed a two-year leadership development program and held positions in procurement, consulting, and manufacturing, both domestically and abroad working in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Dublin, Ireland. She has also served as a consultant to higher education institutions on strategic sourcing initiatives. Verda is an advocate for and has participated in several conferences and programs related to attracting and advancing women in the supply chain profession.
Verda received a BBA degree in logistics from Iowa State University and an MS degree in supply chain management from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is an alumna of Grainger Center for Supply Chain Management.
