Biography
Yaacov Trope is a Professor of Psychology at New York University Faculty of Arts and Science and has an affiliated appointment in the marketing department at the New York University Stern School of Business.
Professor Trope's research focuses on the cognitive, motivational and affective mechanisms underlying social judgments and decisions. He has studied intuitive and analytic modes of social information processing and their consequences for judgmental bias and error. His recent work examines psychological distance effects, namely, how temporal, spatial, and social distances affect the representations of objects and, thereby, predictions, evaluations, and choice.
He has won numerous research awards, including a Fulbright Fellowship and the American Psychological Society Fellowship.
Professor Trope earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Michigan in 1974.
