Yiheng Tu

Principal Investigator/Research Professor at Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China

Biography

My research to-date has focused on studying the neurologic signatures of brain diseases using neuroimaging techniques including EEG, MEG, and fMRI, and subsequently helping in clinical diagnosis for doctors. I am also interested in investigating the neural mechanisms of human pain perception and developing objective pain measurements using neuroimaging techniques.

In contrast to conventional neuroimaging studies which test hypotheses about structure-function associations in the brain, my work concentrates on using multivariate, data-driven methods to provide a basis for reconceptualizing diagnostic categories that are useful for clinical decision-making and identifying neuropathological features for therapeutic development. Therefore, my focus is not on whether there are any effects in one or more brain regions, but on whether the effects are large enough to have clinical utility.

I have substantial experiences in bridging the state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and neuroimaging applications to study neuroscience and clinical problems.
